December 11 2025 starting from h18:30Cinema La Compagnia, Florence

On December 11, La Compagnia officially closes the 2024 festival season with an evening dedicated to Irish cinema. The program, part of the 50 Giorni di cinema, includes two films from N.I.C.E. with IRISH FILM FESTA, the result of the collaboration with the Roman festival that since 2007 has brought the best of Irish cinema to Italy.

How to reach the Cinema
Cinema La Compagnia is located in the historic center of Florence. We encourage our audience to reach it by public transportation: the nearest bus stops are at Via De’ Pucci (lines 14, 23 and C1) and at Via Cavour (C1). Or in Piazza San Marco (4 min walk) stops most of the ATAF lines to and from the historic center and the T2 line of the tram. Those arriving in Florence by train can easily walk to the cinema in less than 15 minutes. You can check routes and schedules on the website: at-bus.it or on the official “at bus” app available on Google Play and Apple Store.
We look forward to seeing you there!

For the past four years, N.I.C.E. has been bringing new Italian cinema to Ireland. The enthusiasm shown by local audiences has inspired us to reciprocate the favor.

The pilot edition of our collaboration with Irish Film Festa in 2024 was a great success, and we are delighted to be able to repeat it this year.

Thanks to this valuable collaboration, film enthusiasts will have the opportunity to discover and appreciate a selection of high-quality Irish films, thus enriching the cultural offering of our city.

We look forward to seeing you for an evening of excellent Irish cinema!

December 11 h18:30Breakfast on Pluto

by Neil Jordan

Ireland, the 1960s. Patrick Braden, the illegitimate son of the parish priest of a small village on the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic, is extremely unhappy growing up in the heartless family that adopted him. All he wants is to be a woman and find the mother who fled to London after giving birth to her child. As the IRA begins a series of bloody attacks all over the British Isles, Patrick moves to Swinging London, where his extravagant behaviour meets with less opposition than back home.

Born in Sligo in 1950, writer and director, Neil Jordan is the best known Irish filmmaker. His first feature film was Angel (1982). Among his other works, The Miracle (1991), The Crying Game (1993, Oscar winner for Best Original Screenplay), Michael Collins (1996, Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival), The Butcher Boy (1998), Breakfast on Pluto (2006), Ondine (2009) are all related to Ireland. Parallel to the cinema, Jordan continues his literary production and has so far published a collections of short stories and six novels.

December 11 h21The Spin

by Michael Head

Based on the semi-autobiographical experiences of local Omagh musician Mark McCausland, The Spin follows two unlikely friends who are down on their luck in all aspects of their lives and are about to be evicted from their small record store, Boneyard Records. They get wind of a sale of some records that, unbeknown to the seller, are worth a small fortune and take an epic road trip down south to obtain the holy grail of vinyl records and secure a bargain that might save their music store and change their fortunes.

Michael Head is a critically acclaimed and award-winning actor, director, and playwright/screenwriter. His first feature The Last Heist (based on the stage play ‘Time’), won best feature at the British Independent Film Awards in 2022. In 2024, he directed Bermondsey Tales and The Spin.
