Giorgio Diritti’s strongly felt first feature, The Wind Blows Round, takes us to a tiny mountain hamlet near the French border, where the Provençal or Occitan language is still spoken. In the name of cultural preservation, it has become a mere attraction for summer tourists. The villagers, set in their ways, are shaken to the core when French goatherd Philippe (Thierry Toscan), his young wife Chris (Alessandra Agosti) and their children decide to move in. What happens next is told with a subtle and knowing hand. Stunning landscapes form a dramatic background to an extremely topical story of intolerance and its evil fruit
