In Beneath the Same Moon, Neapolitan director Carlo Luglio gives us a close-up view of the hardships faced by two young Rom gypsies living on the outskirts of Naples. While one struggles to earn a living, the other is tempted by easier gains. They are part of an unsavory environment run by local mafia lords at war with each other. Luglio’s drama draws a parallel between the squalor of life inside and outside the Rom camp, emphasizing the people’s enormous vitality and love of life that gets them through nearly impossible situations and, in the end, sorrowfully pushes them to move on.

Carlo Luglio
He studied Cinema History and in 2003 he made his first feature film North Cape, which won awards at international festivals. The subject matter of the film was one to which he would subsequently return: people living on the fringes of society. Since 2004 he has been involved with the association “Figli del Bronx” and has worked in nomad camps in the Neapolitan suburbs. With these people Carlo Luglio made Beneath the Same Moon just at the time the mafia feuds were breaking out in the city.
