Returning to Nice after his first film, Vrindavan Film Studios, Lamberto Lambertini demonstrates all his profound love of his native Naples, its history and cultural richness, in Fire at My Heart. The story takes us back to 1815 when the city was briefly ruled by Joachim Murat on behalf of Napoleon. Murat’s political vision and his tragic end play out against the personal dreams of Eugenio (Massimo Varrese), an idealistic young nobleman in love with a peasant girl, and his wise grandfather Prince Nicola, played by Omar Sharif in a warm, illuminating performance. Sumptuous production design, inspired by the still lives and portraits of Ingres and Gerard, brings the period to life.
