The Remains of Nothing is based on the novel by Enzo Striano, for which the director bought the sceen rights in 1997, when the novel was known only in Naples. The central figure is Eleonora Pimentel Fonseca, and it is around her that the events of the Neapolitan revolution of 1799 unfurl. These events are seen through her eyes, the eyes of an apparently fragile womas who is none the less fired with great strength and courage. Eleonora in not a heroin seeking adventure; she has not chosen the revolution, but found herself embroiled in it. Despite this, she lives the experience with rigor and coherence.
